An act of intimidation occurred in the heart of Vibo Valentia against journalist Pietro Comito, a contributor to the television network Video Calabria. Unidentified individuals damaged his car, parked in Piazza Santa Maria, scratching a deep line along one side with a sharp object.
The incident was reported by Comito himself through a video posted on his social media channels, in which he showed the damage and addressed a direct message to those responsible.
“I leave my car parked and find a nice ‘gift’ from someone. To those who think I might step back, I say this: in my life I have taken much harder blows and faced them with courage. I am not like you, cowards. I look you in the eyes and confront you head-on,” he said.
Comito also expressed his strong bond with the city: “Vibo Valentia is a beautiful city. You are not like us. There are people who believe in me and appreciate what I do. I am not alone. There is a protective circle around me that allows you to act only in the shadows.”
Our Editorial Group expresses full and unconditional solidarity with Pietro Comito, firmly condemning every form of violence, intimidation, or attempt to influence the work of those who carry out their profession with dedication and courage.
Attacks and acts of vandalism like this represent an assault on press freedom and on citizens’ right to be informed—values we defend with determination and without hesitation.
