A life devoted to others, unwavering faith, and extraordinary phenomena: this is the story of Natuzza Evolo, known as the “Messenger of the Virgin Mary.” Born on August 23, 1924, and passing away on November 1, 2009, Natuzza, whose real name was Fortunata Evolo, left an indelible mark on contemporary spirituality. On her tomb she wrote: “Do not seek me. Lift your eyes to Jesus and the Virgin. I am with you and I pray”, words that capture the spirit of her life.
Humble among the humble, poor among the poor, and mother of five, Natuzza spent over sixty years comforting all who came to her. Hundreds of thousands of faithful from around the world sought her in Paravati for guidance, support, and hope. Her life was marked by extraordinary mystical phenomena: conversations with the Lord, the Virgin, and the saints – especially Padre Pio –, visions of angels and the deceased, bilocation, bleeding phenomena, and the passion of Christ experienced on her own body through stigmata and crucifixion.
Natuzza Evolo also inspired the foundation Immaculate Heart of Mary – Refuge of Souls, established on May 13, 1987, to support those in need. As she recounted, in 1944 the Virgin Mary foretold the creation of a great house and a church to help young people, the elderly, and anyone in need.
Although she died on All Saints’ Day, Natuzza continues to live in the hearts of millions and through the works she inspired, especially the church named after the Refuge of Souls.
