On the occasion of the San Martino feast, Dr. Domenico Praticò shared with friends and the community a moment of celebration linked to the tradition of new wine.
“Like every year,” Dr. Praticò said, “this year we renewed the tradition at home by uncorking a bottle of our new Sangiovese. Cheers and best wishes for a happy San Martino to everyone!”
The holiday, celebrated on November 11, is inspired by the famous poem by Giosuè Carducci, written in 1887, which evokes autumn landscapes and the joy of the harvest:
“The fog climbs the rugged hills,
drizzling,
and under the mistral
the sea roars and whitens,
but through the village streets
from the bubbling of the vats
the sharp smell of wine
lifts the spirits”
Traditionally, San Martino is the day when the must becomes wine, according to popular proverb, and many Italian families celebrate by opening the first bottles of the new vintage.
