“The heart behind the uniform in the sea of love” by Paolo Fedele: the story of a Coast Guard hero at Più Libri più Liberi 2025

A story of courage, dedication, and passion is set to reach an international audience at Rome’s National Fair of Small and Medium Publishing: The Heart Behind the Uniform in the Sea of Love, the autobiographical book by Paolo Fedele, an officer of the Italian Coast Guard, will be presented at the upcoming edition of Più Libri più Liberi, taking place from 4 to 8 December at La Nuvola, the striking conference centre designed by the renowned architect Massimiliano Fuksas.

Published by Laruffa Editore, the book traces Fedele’s personal and professional journey, from his training at the Non-Commissioned Officers’ School in La Maddalena to his daring rescue missions across the Mediterranean and international operations. The narrative highlights not only heroic deeds and moments of emergency at sea but also the sacrifices, fears, and deep commitment that come with wearing the uniform. It offers readers a unique, intimate perspective on those who dedicate their lives to safeguarding others.

Born in Vibo Valentia, Paolo Fedele has been recognised with several honours, including being named a Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic and receiving the Honourable Mention at the Giuseppe Moscati Award 2025. Since 2025, he has also served as Vice National Secretary of USIM (Italian Navy and Coast Guard Union), representing officers and personnel of the Italian Navy and Coast Guard.

Più Libri più Liberi, organised by the Italian Publishers Association, is Italy’s premier showcase for independent publishing: each year, around 500 publishers present over 650 events, including readings, debates, musical performances, and author talks. The fair provides not only a literary discovery experience but also a platform for cultural and social dialogue.

Within this rich programme, Fedele’s autobiography stands out for its powerful human and professional message, portraying the life of a man who wears a uniform but possesses a heart as vast as the sea he defends every day. Visitors and book enthusiasts will have the opportunity to meet the author at the Laruffa Editore stand, hear him speak, and explore the values that guide his life and work.
